Recently two of our valued blog readers have commented on a few posts, raising very valid and real concerns. Rather than simply replying to them, we have opted to post the answers for everyone to see.
We value your feedback and any questions you have. Not only does it give us the chance to provide answers, but also to improve.
The first query came from Jerome: “I know that Bitdefender is supposed to be the best antivirus out there but how can we trust them cause, they like any other antivirus makers download viruses. How do we know your all are not giving us the virus and then selling your product?”
Jonathan Holton has replied: “This is a common idea and often raised by consumers. I am personally acquainted with the Bitdefender techies who investigate and remove viruses on a daily basis. Each day brings approximately 2500 new worms they have to reverse engineer. They simply do not have the time to create their own viruses, but more importantly, the repercussions for anti-virus companies writing their own viruses and then selling the “anti-venom”, as it were, are serious. Apart from the ethics involved, this is not a risk Bitdefender are prepared to take.”
The second query came from Leo: “I bought Bitdefender 2012 Total Security and was unpleasantly disgusted that it took me almost five hours to get it installed after several calls to the help desk. Once I got it running it's excellent. I suggested the software to friends and they think of me as an idiot for having them buy it (they also had severe installation issues). I think the product is fantastic, but installation is not user friendly at all. Thanks for a great product anyhow.”

Jonathan’s answer, “When the first Bitdefender 2012 kit was initially released, it had a minor flaw that was soon rectified. A second, flaw-less kit was released. Unfortunately, we were unaware of the bug, but it has since been resolved. Leo may have been unlucky and received the first kit. If any other users have got this kit, our suggestion is to disconnect internet and reinstall the solution. The latest kit resolves the installation issues and is available from our website for downloading: www.holton.co.za.”
Thank you Jerome and Leo for the queries; please contact us again if you have any others or wish to discuss these answers further. The helpdesk is always open help solve issues.
