Android, represented by the iconic little green
robot loved for everything he symbolises, is one of the most
popular mobile platforms and operating systems in the world.
Millions of people use Android devices every day.
And due to this week’s discovery of a vulnerability allowing remote USSD
(unstructured supplementary service data) commands to be run, this puts
millions of people at risk of massive, sudden data loss at the hands of unsavoury types.
Bitdefender, the internet security innovator, has
stepped up (yet again) and released Bitdefender
Wipe Stopper, a FREE tool to safeguard against attackers remotely wiping
Android devices clean or causing any other damage. By notifying Android users
of any attempts to run a USSD command on their device, the afflicted are able
to prevent their phones from executing any malicious commands.
Bitdefender Chief Security Researcher, Alexandru
Balan, has commented that “the moment the vulnerability came to light,
Bitdefender set some of the best minds in the industry to working.” He went on
to conclude with a sound recommendation, saying “we came up with the best
solution available – Bitdefender Wipe
Stopper. It’s free, so we recommend pretty much every Android owner uses
it.”

**Please
note that once Bitdefender Wipe Stopper is installed, your device is protected
against running unauthorised
USSF commands even if your Android version is vulnerable. Do not be misled if
you see the below after having installed Wipe Stopper (once installed, you ARE
protected):
